    Born in 1954 in Brisbane to Chinese immigrants, Lindy Lee has explored ideas around history, portraiture, cultural authenticity and personal identity through her art since the early 1980s. Curated by MCA Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, this exhibition will introduce audiences to key works from across the artist’s extensive career, from early photocopy artworks and wax paintings that drew on Western art history through to recent large-scale installations and sculptures that reflect Lee’s deep engagement with Buddhist philosophies, as well as her much-loved public artworks and commissions.

    Gavin Hipkins (born 1968) is an Auckland-based photographer whose candid and spontaneous still and moving images push the boundaries of formal artmaking. Created in New Zealand and Australia, then in Great Britain and New Zealand respectively, Homely (1997-99) and The Homely II (2001-2017) consider themes around nationhood, identity and belonging, and the legacy of British imperialism today.

  • National Pain Week

    National Pain Week is an annual initiative of Chronic Pain Australia, the national voice of people living with chronic pain. The week aims to destigmatise the experiences of people living with chronic pain while also championing the need for the voice of people living with chronic pain to be heard when any related health policy is developed. This year’s theme for National Pain Week is ‘Faces of Pain’. We are aiming to bust some of the myths and stigma surrounding chronic pain and what someone with it looks like and how they live. Chronic Pain Australia is eager for people living with chronic pain to share their stories. There are many excellent case studies available on request.

    On International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), people from around the world unite to prevent overdose, remember those who have been lost, acknowledge the grief of those left behind, and end the stigma of drug use and addiction. Since 2012, this campaign has been organised by Penington Institute, an independent Australian organisation which connects lived experience and research to improve community safety in relation to drugs.
